J OB OVERVIEW
The Sr. Counsel, Real Estate analyzes, drafts, negotiates, and provides advice relating to all facets of the real property owned and leased by the Company. From time to time, the attorney will also work on the acquisition of properties for new restaurants. Counsel interfaces with members of the Asset Management, Facilities, Operations, Tax and Property Accounting teams, as well as other members of the Legal team. Counsel will communicate with landlords, developers and neighboring property owners, or their respective counsel.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Analyze and provide advice with respect to Company's real estate portfolio (e.g., leases, surveys, easements, declarations, eminent domain, environmental matters); includes determining rights and obligations regarding maintenance, use, alterations, indemnities, areas of responsibility and CAM payments; responding to inquiries regarding insurance and indemnity requirements under relevant documents
Apply innovative problem-solving skills in developing strategic solutions; includes providing legal advice and applying sound business judgment in a fast-paced, high-demand environment
Negotiate and draft documents; draft and respond to legal notices (e.g., non-disturbance agreements, lease amendments, easements, default notices).
Jointly maintain property management databases with other users
Manage lease renewal process, including accurately identifying term expirations, renewal notice deadlines, and other material deadlines, in collaboration with Asset Management
Effectively manage outside counsel when retained
Be an effective resource for the real estate team
Assist with special projects and training of others
REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS
Minimum 7 years of law firm or in-house experience as a real estate attorney with emphasis on commercial real estate transactions, including leasing
Licensed to practice law and in good standing under the Bar of
REQUIRED EDUCATION
Juris Doctor Degree from an ABA accredited law school

Demonstrated ability to independently make decisions regarding complex property documents with an in-depth understanding of the risks involved

Proven analytical ability to recognize and creatively resolve issues
