Payroll Specialist

Overview

Summary

The Red Lobster Payroll Specialist, Processing provides support to all Red Lobster employees by responding to their questions and concerns by resolving issues. This position requires a high degree of accuracy and diligent use of data management within internal information systems while assisting with in-house payroll processing. The Payroll Specialist also supports final pay processes, updates records, and answers questions from internal customers (e.g., employees, and leaders).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Answer high-volume calls and emails to Payroll Support Center courteously, make needed changes, and input requests into a call tracking system.
  • Use information systems and processes to assist in producing accurate weekly payroll payments for Corporate and Operations employees in the United States and Canada.
  • With guidance, ensure that payments follow applicable federal, state, and local legal requirements related to payroll (e.g., tax regulations, wage, and hour laws).
  • Process special payments and nonstandard payments to employees, including final pays, ensuring that taxes, deductions, and overrides are calculated and withheld accurately; may pay termination penalties in applicable states, as required.
  • Minimize risk to Red Lobster by advising Operations Leaders on pay processes (e.g., final pays) by applying federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by responding to customers' questions and concerns.
  • Process payroll reporting and analyze data in information systems to identify problems/issues and escalate, as needed.
  • Increase familiarity with Red Lobster payroll processes and procedures in the United States and Canada.
  • Serve as a backup to other members of the team.
  • Keep payroll and personnel information strictly confidential.
  • Complete additional tasks, as assigned.


Required Qualifications Experience, Skills

  • Candidates should have 2 or more years of experience as a Payroll Coordinator, Sr. Payroll Coordinator, or other, equivalent role.
  • Phone and email customer service experience.
  • Payroll processing experience (adding hours, calculating retro payments) with an understanding of Payroll concepts and procedures (e.g., calculation of gross to net).
  • Ability and willingness to work with a sense of urgency in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment, to complete tasks on tight deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate to all levels, clearly and concisely, in a team environment.
  • Ability and comfort with using various computer programs and resources:
    • Basic to Intermediate Microsoft Office (and other software) skills, particularly Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat.
    • Use of websites and internet-based resources.


Other Key Qualifications

  • Experience with PeopleSoft and ADP SmartCompliance is preferred.
  • Detail-oriented and the ability to perform all work in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Ability to stay current with work procedures, new software, and software updates.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and ask for assistance when needed.

Supervisory and Leadership

  • This position is an individual contributor and has no direct reports.


Education/Certification

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification is preferred.
